CNCF conducted the first ever Kubernetes Day India in Bengaluru at Infosys campus. It was a great way to spend a saturday immersing in exciting sessions on kubernetes by awesome speakers, learning about the innovative solutions startups were building around kubernetes and of course the awesome food.

Opening remarks were given by Dan Kohn from CNCF. CNCF is part of the Linux Foundation, one of the most successful foundations in the Software Industry. CNCF is nurturing softwares in the categories of Security, Networking, Web, BlockChain, Automative and Cloud. CNCF categories the projects based on the maturity levels into Graduated, Incubating and Sandboxed Projects. Kubernetes is one of the projects which is in Graduated Category. It also conducts two certifications Certified Kubernetes Administrator and Certified Kubernetes Application Developer. There was a huge round of applause from the audience when Dan Kohn announced that all the participants will get 50% discount coupon for the certifications or the trainings by CNCF.

Liz Rice from Aqua Security talked about security in kubernetes. She compared Linux and Kubernetes in terms of security in a beautiful way. In Linux everything is a file. Files can be given read, write and execute permissions for the users and groups. Similarly in Kubernetes everything is a resource. One can define get, list, watch, create, delete, patch, update, use, bind, etc actions on resources for users and groups.Kubernetes also has the roles and role bindings. In Linux the ingredients are files, permissions, users and groups and in Kubernetes the ingredients are resources, actions, roles, users and groups.
